Christmas is everywhere now, and there is no escaping it. But this year at Chatterboxes we are doing Christmas a little differently – We are having a Calmer Curious Christmas.
We want to slow down and create special moments for our children and families. Curiosity Approach follows the seasons, and we are celebrating winter. There are so many beautiful moments like the berries on the holly bushes, hearing and seeing the birds sing in the bare trees and feeling the cold frost and ice in the mornings. Don’t forget these magical moments!
Everyone views Christmas differently, we have children and families from all around the world with different beliefs, cultures and traditions and it is important to respect them all. At Chatterboxes we celebrate the winter season and Christmas as part of that. We provide experiences for children to play and learn not to sit and create.
Since watching Starchitects Save Santa we have been talking about Christmas. We saw the big, beautiful tree at the MAC decorated with robots made from re-cycled items. What a fantastic idea to. We made some of our decorations from old lollipop sticks. The children decorated our tree, then we took it inside St Mary’s Church in Moseley to be part of a tree blessing ceremony. Children and families can view trees from local organisations. We also went to see the big Christmas tree in Moseley Village. We have been on lots of local walks looking for decorations.
There will be lots of other invitations to explore Winter & Christmas, white playdough with loose parts to celebrate winter and Christmas, like pinecones, shiny beads, some Christmas decorations, sticks so that children can create whatever they like.
Christmas figurines, a Christmas Tree and some decorations will be added to the block play to extend their learning. There will be many mark-making opportunities, drawing in flour, creating pictures/cards for family and friends around the winter and Christmas themes if children want to or they can create whatever they want to.
We couldn’t finish the year without a Party – Not just any party but an invite for parents to join us for some lovely food, and to snuggle down with their child and watch a favourite ‘The Gruffalo’s Child’ on our big projector screen. We will end the party with a visit from Father Christmas on his sleigh. A lovely treat in our car park. The children all receive their gifts from Santa for being part of our amazing Family. A huge thankyou to Moseley and Kings Heath Lions Club for Santa and his sleigh.
