Our History

Chatterboxes Pre-school has been a part of the Moseley community since the 1970’s under different names and management. It was originally Centre 13 playgroup which was in the old Moseley Church of England School in School Road (where the flats are now) run by St Mary’s Church.

In 1990 it became an independent group run by a committee and supported by the Pre-School Playgroup Alliance, (now Early Years Alliance). In the late 1990’s it merged with Jackanory, a group run to support children with additional needs and became Juggling Jellyfish run by Centre 13.

When Centre 13 was closed in 2004 St Paul’s Community Development Trust took over and it was re-named Chatterboxes Pre-School. St Paul’s Venture building was used until Calvary Church Hall was suitable to use.

In September 2019 Chatterboxes Pre-School became privately owned by Jabina Akhtar who has been part of Chatterboxes staff team since March 2007.

Our Aims

Making Healthy Choices

We follow the Startwell Birmingham programme to help children develop healthy habits in a fun and engaging way. This includes promoting healthy eating and appropriate portion sizes, encouraging daily physical activity, supporting oral health, and building fundamental skills, including both physical and food skills. Fun Startwell characters help children understand these habits in an age-appropriate way.

Children are provided with fresh and nutritious snacks, and all dietary requirements can be catered for. Only water and milk are provided as drinks to keep children hydrated and healthy. We also encourage healthy packed lunches in line with EYFS Nutrition Guidance, ensuring that lunches include fruit and vegetables, starchy foods, protein, and dairy, while avoiding sugary and fatty foods.
