I have been part of the Chatterboxes Family for over 18 years. I came to Chatterboxes as a mum of 2 little boys and I felt like it was a second family, home from home, for children, parents, and staff. There was a sense of belonging and so many amazing experiences for the children, not because of all the latest toys, technology, or equipment that they had but because of the passion and use of resources that the amazing staff had. One day the children would be going to beach, another day they would be having a plane journey, a train ride, all with boxes, chairs, and a plank of wood. So many cooking experiences, different foods from all over the world, parents would come in share their talents, culture, and beliefs with all the children. And not to mention the big, beautiful garden at the back, an amazing space for the children to explore seasons and nature. No matter what the weather or how muddy it was the children would have some outside time!
Fast forward 18+ years – Post Covid, the world seemed to change, parents were not allowed in. No sand, water, soft furnishings, only toys that could be cleaned and washed were used. And there have been so many technological advances!
We seemed to have lost our way a little bit. We still have an amazing staff team who provide wonderful experiences for our children, but we had fallen back into old habits, which toys can be put out today? We have had large cohorts of children with different challenges, and we have managed to find our way. We have cared for our children made lots of lovely memories but have lost that sparkle.
I recently watched the Disney Film Bambi for the first time, and I was struck by the innocence, awe and wonder little children had. Everything was an adventure. The real-life experiences, seeing and listening to the birds, watching the butterflies. Experiencing the different seasons, feeling, hearing, and seeing, the rain, thunderstorm, snow and ice for the first time, how exciting!
The reason why we chose The Curiosity Approach is because it is a framework to help bring awe and wonder into children’s lives and create thinkers and doers of tomorrow. Like Bambi that’s what we want children at Chatterboxes to experience. Am amazing place where magical learning takes place. We want children, parents, and staff to feel like a family and have a sense of belonging and to create memories that they will cherish.
